My name is Heather Espeso and I am a teacher from Pennsylvania, who has been living and teaching in Spain for 16 years now. Each summer (except for the past two due to the pandemic) I take students with me to Pennsylvania for a family stay. I have 11 students this year that want to go to Michigan. I send them through a great organization called Language & Friendship. They would be hosted for 3.5 weeks by her students.

I have a few students without host families for this summer and we are one month away from departure. We travel on June 29th into Detroit airport and the kids leave again on July 23rd also Detroit airport.

Hosting is easy: students can do anything the host siblings do. They can share a bedroom as long as they have their own bed. They can sign up for any activities their host sibling or siblings will do. They bring spending money. I prepare them linguistically and culturally so they can adapt easily to their host family. They are all so very excited to be a part of an American family this summer. Families do not have to do anything special, just open up their homes and family to a student and share their normal summer routine.

Students all have medical (covid included), travel, and liability insurance. Families are covered 100%. I also make a power of attorney for each student and host family since they are minors. This protects the family completely.  They also are vaccinated against covid and we will do a rapid test the night before traveling as required to enter the US. There will be a teacher on call 24 hours.

Again, I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me in the quest to find loving families for my students.  I have been praying hard that we can find loving host families for them so they are able to come in the end.
